You might try putting the SP3 file in My Documents folder instead of the Desktop, as I mentioned in my above post. This is what I use and it works flawlessly for me. :)

Just curious as to how you solved it. AutoStreamer looks within itself for the file first, and if you don't specify other locations, then I'm not surprised that it would exit. There is an icon to the right of a folder with a green arrow pointing up that is used to search for it. The first option is My Documents, and it was my error for not sharing that with you to begin with. :)

    Unsolved

    No,
I never did solve it,I believe Auto streamer would find it,but it cannot because it is zipped and not showing ISO,as its self extracting, after it has extracted,it just wants to begin to install,so what i cannot figure out is how to burn an image with the file in that state? :confused

ISO is the format of the finished slipstreamed CD before it is burned to disk. This is the only time that the ISO format matters.

If your SP3 download was zipped, then unzip it to an easy to find location. When unzipped/unpacked correctly, it should be a Windows CAB file exe. Do not click on it as it is a self extracting executable file and will run and try to install itself if you do. This exe. file is what you point to as your SP3 file.

When the slipstreaming process is complete you will have an ISO file that will need to be burned to a CD, and when completed this would be your Windows CD with SP3.

    :)

I'm assuming that you downloaded SP3 from the MG link? Should that be the case, then you do have the option in Step 4 of the process. There are two tabs at the bottom, one says Install and the other is Later. If you click on Later ( it takes a little time ) the SP3 exe file will be placed in the Downloads folder in My Documents. I know because I just finished doing so, even though I already have the SP3 file on my hard drive. Just wanted to make sure that I was giving correct information! :)

I'm sorry that I provided the wrong link in post #49 to MG's download for XP SP3. :-o Due to a lack of sleep/rest I provided a google ad link. This is the correct MG download link, http://majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3_d4323.html.

However, I followed the link in post #49, opted out of the tool bars, and downloaded the SP3 file. It is the same file, no matter where it is downloaded from, and how did you get a zipped version?

The slipstreaming process is simple, as detailed in the tutorial!;)

Perhaps I'm wasting both your time and mine, and we should wait for the blue screen error! :-D :confused :wave

Then delete the SP3 file that you downloaded and down load again from either MG or Microsoft. :)

    Hi Novice

I know its been awhile,I need to ask regarding your advice
Can I use my original XP with SP1 on and do the slipstream using that disc on my sons computer,as my computer makes Slipstream exit,so is it ok to do this procedure and burn that disc on another computer? or if not then next time i have to re-install,i could just burn SP3 on a disc and when it asks to insert,i insert the new disc?
    Your thoughts.....:)

Yes, it will be fine to burn the slipstreamed CD on another computer! The disks are not computer specific. Just be sure to read and follow all instructions, and you shouldn't have any issues. :)

did it again on another computer, soon as i select the SP3 location, the program exits.
So,I rest my case and will just burn a SP3 cd...should that be burnt as an image?
    Thanks

If you are just going to burn SP3 to a CD, then it shouldn't be burned as an image file. The SP3 file is an executable file and can be burned as a data type file.

    Hope this helps! :)
