that is a link to the issue i brought up in saying hello forumns. sorry for posting it there. But i did get alot of answers from some guys which is good. But i was wondering if you can suggest anything with more security. i have wireless on 2 pc 1 pc is connecting to the owner router. i do have password but iam tring to get all that i can to protect myself. because i can still get people tring to connect to my pc and i dont recognize the ip's. So are these the best things to do from what the people have told me to do. or can i do more? like 100 firewalls or something:)

    Hello Silas,

First I hope you are not logging on to the internet as an administrator. Read

Second if you have trouble setting the wep/wap security post for help

Third Look at the settings page of your router. Does it offer MAC addressing? Post the make/model. Using MAC would be your most secure option.

You could get a hardware firewall, if you have a broadband connection you might already have one built into your router, but would recommend one that is used exclusively as a firewall. Buy a wireless router with WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) , that will help protect your wirless system if you follow setup guidelines, although the signal still travels through the airways before it gets to the router. Our software firewalls (only run one of these at a time, same with antivirus, only one at a time) also have a Personal Wireless Network Monitor, allowing us to see what computers are on the network. Security is quite an issue on the internet. Since you are using two PC's I would recommend using one with beefed up security for personal information being sent and received, and one for internet browsing, fun. Make sure you are using a secure connection when sending personal information, double click that little gold lock and check out that sites certificate. Some firewalls (and web browsers) also have a phishing filter available for use. Study up on all the different settings of Internet Options/Internet Properties if you are using Internet Explorer or any browser that utilizes Internet Explorer. I remember the first time I knowingly got hacked, luckily for me that hacker had no malicious intent, but not long after that did my first reformat and installation of WIndows. The main thing is to be careful out there, especially with email, and don't just go clicking on any link on the internet, especially on sites you are not familiar with. I would recommend using a password at least 15 characters long on your "secure" pc, as well as any websites you use for banking or for business purposes. Use CAPS, lower case letters, numbers, and characters (~^#*^?|) in your password, but try to make it one you can remember so you won't have to write it down, and if you do need to write it down keep it secure, not on a post-it on your monitor. And Windows is not the only operating system out there, but since it is the most popular, it is also the one hackers go after. Good Luck, and be careful out there, you just might learn something.
