Xp Prefetch Not working

Looked into my Prefetch folder thinking I might empty it, there is nothing in there.

Checked the registry setting and it is set to 3 [prefetch everything].

Yet there is nothing in the folder.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get it working again?

By nature, I am an addicted tweaker.

Yes, I use various cleaners to try an keep my system running at top peak performance.

I like tweaking and then benchmarking to see if the tweak did any good.

I think I remember running a cleaner that deleted empty folders. Hence, when I looked for the prefetch folder this morning, it wasn't even there. Re-creating it in the windows folder doesn't help to get the prefetch function working again.

Hi

Its likely as part of your tweaking that one tweak and deleting the whole contents of the prefetch folder has deleted the layout.ini file and this one is crucial to the proper working of this folder.

Make sure task scheduler service is running and set to auto.

So to recreate this file try this from a CMD prompt (be in admin account) and type or paste this Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks and hit enter, reboot and hopefully it recreates the prefetch folder and more importantly the layout.ini
