i have a 500 gb seagate sata drive connected to my computer. i want to use it as a slave but windows xp pro isnt detecting it properly. i have an xp home installation disc and i do not need to install any 3rd party drivers to install home onto the sata drive, so i know it should be natively supported by xp, but the problem is that its not support on my system. when plugged in windows pops up found new hardware, but its listed as "ide controller." i got some intel drivers for the chipset the sata drive is connected to on my mobo and installed them. windows no longer says it found new hardware or asks for drivers for it, but its installed as "ide controller" when its a harddisk drive. if i had an xp pro installation disc i think i could just do reinstall on top of my existing one, but the only disc i have is for xp home. i think there must be a driver on my system that is incorrectly installed or just not working properly that comes on xp. does anyone know what i can do to fix this? or maybe somewhere else i could go for help?
