:wave I just did a fresh install of Win XP Pro SP3 ... I have this mobo that seems to have this problem. :***

I was installing programs after the fresh install, the last was webshots and microsoft word, before it started rebooting instead of shutting down. I uninstalled those programs, but no change. I had this problem with this mobo before and I never address the issue ... I simply pulled the plug before it restarted. This was a totally different HHD the OS is on ... I have not installed the raid stuff for the mobo because I see no way to install it in the software I have.

There is no flash of blue screen or anything when it does this. It shuts down for a faction of a second ... the start to boot up again. I do have Comodo installed.

Now before I add any more program I want to find out what is causing this. I'm sure the mobo has something to do with it, because I have the same programs on three other computers with different mobo and never had this problem. Can anyone help me with this. :confused

:waveI did try that with no success ... I also tried going into the device manager and disabled the WakeOnLAN From Power Off for the ethernet. I tried updating the bios. I tried looking in the event viewer to find a clue, but I didn't recognize anything that would cause the failure to shut down. I didn't see anything in the bios that would help the situation either.:confused

Update: I've had this processor and board for a couple of years and it has never been able to shut down winxp or win7 ... it will simply reboot. I lived with it by unplugging it before it booting again.

I did an upgrade on my main computer and made the FX 8120 my second computer ... when I did a fresh install on a different hard drive I thought my rebooting problem would be over, but it carries on. I installed XP Pro 32 bit.

I got a link to a driver with this infor ...

    and this

I tried both but neither worked. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.:wave

I don't know if this will be of any help, but when the computer sits idle and the screen saver comes on then the screen will go to sleep ... both xp and win 7 with the amd processor would shut down on it's own.

You know what ... I tried updating the bios with the software provided at the mobo site, but it won't work. According to Belarc my bios is FB 08/26/2011 and the lastest at the site as you can see is FC2012/06/05. There are only 3 files when I unzip it and one is a flash application ... I click on it ... and briefly see a black box ... then nothing. Maybe this upgrade will help, but how do I get it to work?:confused

    Instructions
I tried the program in the instructions, but it didn't work. I couldn't get an update from the server it stated the mobo was not listed and to go to the website for the file. I got the file and tried the update bios from file and got this message ...

    Just a thing or two.

If you bring up the "dos window" and type in: shutdown /s /t 0 [will it shut down?]

Do you have anything under c:\windows\minidump ??

When I give that dos command the machine do as it does when I shut it down regularly a split second shutdown, then it boots up again.

There is nothing in windows called minidump.

    Thanks anyway.:wave

Ok ... I was able to upgrade the BIOS but unfortunately it didn't solve my shutdown problem. As far as why the upgrade didn't work before is because I was directing the BIOS upgrader to the wrong file out of the three I got. Once I gave it the right file it upgraded no problem. That's a very nice utility. :) Now back to the problem of no shutdown.:confused

    Dear customer,

    Please try the following:

    1) Go to Bios, press "Delete" during Bios start up screen

    2) Go to"Power management"

    3) Disable "PME Event wake up"

    4) Press "F10" to save and exit.
