XP Pro Restore Gone?

I have a friend who has a laptop that the Restore option just vanished. You go to Control Panel, System and the tab is not even there. It still shows up in Services and is supposedly running.

Anybody got any ideas?

 

try this:

start-run regsvr32 winsta.dll

and, go to C:\windows\inf and locate sr.inf, right click and choose install. He will need his CD, or Sp1 directory, if he installed SP1. Point it to the appropriate i386 dir.

Default dir. for backups of sp1 files would be C:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386.

One or both of these will likely delete your restore points, but should get it working again.

Turned out she had not upgraded to SP1 yet so I just threw that on and it took care of it for me.
