XP Pro Stuck in Boot Loop

This happen about two weeks ago ( in the middle of April ) my computer ran good that night then the next morning when I turned on the computer and it opened to a black screen saying that Windows did not start successfully and gives me 5 options. boot in safe mode,safe mode with networking,safe mode with command prompt,last know good Configuration and start window normal. Well none of the above would work,they all start to boot then bring me back to the options screen.

This is a old computer but works very good ( use too ) Oringally I had Windows Me on it but upgraded to XP Pro. So when I put in my XP Pro CD I can not boot up to windows but I can get to the recovery screen then it ask me to insert the recovery disc ( remember this is a XP upgrade ) I put in the Windows ME recovery disc ( the only one I have ) and it does not recognize it. I tried the Ultimate Boot CD but I can not get it to run,changed bios for cd to run first on boot but that did not help. So here I am stuck with a machine that keeps rebooting to the options screen.

Can anyone help me on this or is my old computer going to be my new door stop. I read somewhere that this could be from a windows update is that possible. Help please.

I've been on the internet and found that chkdsk could be making my computer do the boot loop.


I got XP Pro disc ( upgrade disc ) to get into a command screen with limited commands,tried to run chkdsk \p and it told me.

The Volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.

I think I might be screwed.:cry
