    Hi Guys,

I know some of you are very good when it comes to Windows XP Pro and what is and isnt normal, so I thought I would post a question here...

I have 512MB System memory and I was wandering, if that was getting chewed up and basically getting critically low, say below 50MB available, would windows free (Including the mouse) like a pause, to try and free some system memory?

I am just curious becuase recently my system has been having a hard reign when it comes to pausing for upto 5 seconds at a time, and repeats this until I reset, although I haven't left it waiting longer than 5 mins to see if it stops by itself. This doesn't happen ALL the time, say 2 or 3 times a week.

Also, here is a paste from my system information - running processes section.. Can someone tell me if some stuff shouldn't be here or I can disable somehow? When I got this readout all I was running was Avast! Home edition and azureus.... Nothing else was loaded.

What does taskmanger say during this time within the performance tab? Is it spiking at 100% and large page file usage?

What is your page file set? How much hard drive space do you have left?
Within processes, what is the peak mem usage and VM size on the process that may be causing this issue?

Peak mem usage and vm size can be show, if you click "View", "Select Columns".

I personally have those, and vm size, paged pool, i/o reads, i/o writes, i/o read bytes, and Command line. :)

I assume xp is fully updated? Are you running anything in particular in the background? Any tasks that are set during these times?

Does the eventvwr.msc have anything going on during these times? <---- this can be checked any time, as long as you remember the dates and times this has caused an issue.

[bazza] Experts say you don’t need it for XP, but I use it on XP. Works for me ! :)
