ok.. the error report goes like this...
"the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"
i started getting these messages ever since i tried to install some updated bluetooth drivers..(widcomm)

Go into msconfig and make sure the Windows Installer service has a check in the box.

    Its under services.

    one mor thing...
in my folder options, there is no option which says.. "show hidden files and folders" i had tht in win 2k but now in Xp i don`t have it. neither do i have an advanced options tab as mentioned in the help.
all hidden files r visible. how cna i keep them "hidden"?
    thanx

    Go to Tools, Folder options.

Make sure its a main folder or it wont be there.

For instance, open My Computer and do it there.
