I've been trying to re-install windows as my boot time is taking like 20 minutes and I can't do a system restore and de-frag, checking for spyware/viruses doesn't work.

This is the problem I've run in to.

It can't detect the partition saying that there's an Unknown disc <There's no disc in the drive>.

It can't delete because the partition contains temporary setup files required to complete the installation.

    The problem file is setupdd.sys.

The error it gave on the blue screen was -

    ***0x00000050 (0xAEAF618, 0x00000000, 0xF77F8c780, 0x00000000)
    ***setupdd.sys - Adress F77F8C78 base at F77cF00, Datestamp 3d6dd67f)

    Any ideas?

I think before you reinstall, you should post in the malware section with a hijack this log. If there is a nasty, simply reinstalling wont cure your problem and hopefully formatting is not a priority for you just to fix somthing.
Repost in the Malware section and they will help you get your pc back to normal:)
    Good luck:)

It might not be malware so I was asked to try and get it solved here.

It seems to be able to detect the partition when i select repair but not when I select install. Any thoughts?

No. I wasn't sure if I should delete it or not. SHould I go ahead and delete it then?

Also, a friend told me to use alt+f10 to restore it to factory settings. WOuld that work?

Delete what? The partition? Not on the repair install .....but please explain.

Not knowing your system ...on your boot up ...there could be an option to go into a recovery partition ..f11 or what was advised ...you could try that.

Well, here's a list of the option that come up:

    Bootcfg
    cd
    chdir
    chkdsk
    cls
    copy
    del
    delete
    dir
    disable
    diskpart
    enable
    exit
    expand
    fixboot
    fixmbr
    format
    help
    listsvc
    logon
    map
    md
    mkdir
    more
    net
    rd
    ren
    rename
    rmdir
    systemroot
    type

    Are any of those helpful?

    Erm...F11>>>Repair an install>>>C:/help

I'll try those then. If it gives me the option to delete should I do it then?

Delete what? The partition? Do you have two partitions? does one have the os on it and the other have any files or info you don't want to lose? Repairing the install will be to what ever partition the os is currently on .....you don't need to bother with a secondary partition until you are back up and running.

As far asI'm aware there's only the one partition unless PCs come with two? So, if I have the option to delete then I should and then restart the computer and install XP again?

The secondary may be your recovery partition ...so if you want to do a clean install ...total wipe ...yes, delete any partition ..full format ...then clean install.

Well, I can't delete the partition as the computer can't detect it.

    What should I do?

The just do a clean install ...the partition is probably a hidden partition for your system drivers and such.
