Hi, all. I couldn't decide whether to put this in software or here - I chose here.
I'm working on a friend's PowerSpec B615 with Window XP installed. It suffered a MAJOR blow from the Backdoor.Tidserv.I!nf virus. She has used a paid support site and her pc is now completely FUBARed. I managed to get to the recovery console and ran it.
Now it's going through set up.
My question is: Should I hook it into my network to get it up and running? Will the virus still be there or is there even a chance it will still be there?
If so, how should I connect to the internet to insure nothing at my house gets infected?
This is the first time I have had to run a recovery console.

    Thank you!!!!!

I disconnected everything and connected the PC straight into the modem all by itself. I was going to load Avast and Commodo, but she paid for Norton 360 after all this, so she wants to use that. Who am I to argue... If I could back up my opinion to use something else, I would. I guess I just have a bias when it comes to commercial anti-anything software.
I went through the program files, and everything looks like it has just come out of the box. The recovery partition was locked (PC Angel). Do you recommend doing anything further other than installing anti-virus?

I am still not clear about what you did. I am assuming you either did a system restore or you accessed the recovery partition and set it back to factory settings.

In either event, you should read this:

I used the recovery partition and set it back to factory settings.
