XP self-repairing?

I interviewed a computer support technician for the city of Tacoma (seattle's rival city for people outside of Washington). He fixes user's problems (mainly "slow computer" problems) and maintains about 250 computers.

He said that windows XP does a lot of self-repairing. Like people call up a with a boot error (file x is corrupt or missing, press any key to continue stuff). According to him, simply rebooting the computer fixes over 80% of the minor problems. He compared it to his experience with Windows 2000.

Has anyone heard about this before?

perhaps he's referring to the system file checker?

Both Win2k and WinXP has Windows File Protection which can restore corrupted files from the DllCache.

I have only heard of the following things that makes WinXP easier to recover than Win2k:
    1. Driver Rollback
    2. System Restore Points
But both features requires you to be able to boot WinXP.

But if the guy has been "repairing" hundreds of Win2k machines and the same amount of WinXp machines then he is probably is right. (My experience of repairing Win2k is limited to only my own machine)

I'm talking about the kind of errors you get that don't cripple the computer. I'm talking about the errors that come up, but the computer is still completely usable.
