Recently, when I try to shut down Win XP, I Press "Start", then "Turn off computer" and it takes more than a minute until the selector with "Standby", "Turn Off" and "Restart" selction inco shows up. This is a new phenomenon.

The OS has to close running programs, and if there is a program or service taking a lot of CPU cycles, or froze, it may take a bit for the OS to stop the service or program.

Norton is notorious for causing a shutdown to take a while, especially since it is a huge resource monster.
