   ok, I have a legal XP Home SP2 retail license key, but I lost the disc, I have an XP Home SP1 retail disc, would I be able to install XP, with the sp2 key, and then be able to activate/update to service pack 2?

   Yes you should able to do this BUT the best thing to do it's to slipstream your SP1 disk to SP2.....
