XP SP2 Print Spooler, cannot add printer

    Hi,

    Running xpsp2 with all updates.. printer disappeared ( usb ) dell 5100 color laser.. when sttempting to add printer back get the following message:

    Operation could not be complted: Print spooler service is not running

    already ran spybot and hijackthis but cannot determine results.
    any information or hinds would be apprecisted.

    That of course has been tried, Spooler service is set to automatic.

    print spooler service all depends on Remote Procedure Call

    make sure that is running

    Check the firewall. I have to allow spooler subsystem App (of course my printer is networked so this might not apply in your case).

    hi,

    Thanks, I knew of the dependancy, I could stop and start the spooler but the RPS was greyted out.. Started yes, but could not stop..

    I was forced to do a repair on OS with the XP cd. took about an hour.
    but it worked and can now add printers.
