XP sp3 Disk

Something came up and I need to put my sp3 disk in only to find out
I only had sp1a.I have a Geek friend who helps me.I never payed
mined to what he did for me.I down lod my up dates all the time,
:confused What would you say that I needed to do? Ask him? He works on PCs for a living.But you all are here and he lives 2 hours away.
My soft ware is all legal.He would not work on it if it were not legal.

Some day I will get strairened out.rolleyes

 

Have you tried going to the Windows Update Center? The site there can tell if SP2 and SP3 are available for your machine.



When you right click on My Computer/ Properties, what does it show for the OS version?

 

You can update directly to SP3, bypass SP2. Then get all the remaining updates.

 

I haveSP1,SP2,SP3,on this PC.
I bough XP,Than up date .My friend did it for me when he was
doing something for me.SP3 is on my PC.I have no disk for it.It is legal.I
just do not have the disk with my soft ware.rolleyes

Sounds almost,to me anyway, like there is a file needed for some program, but your copy is either corrupt or has been deleted somehow.
Needs the disk to replace or repair it.
May need to remove and reinstall SP3. Copy can be obtained with Windows Updates.

 

Ok hrlow2,I understand what you are saying.
I have True Crypt rescue that my friend made and told me not to loose it.
I think I know what it is.Windows needs to restore to the SP3.The CD-ROM
is not working right.Now if I go to Windows and reinstall SP3 this will fix my
problem.I think there is some thing wrong with my spelling check.
I do not understand it but tomorrow I will try and fix things.

Do you, or did you, use any type of Registry cleaner? They have been known to remove needed files and alter others that didn't need to be touched.results in problems like you are describing.

I think you have hit the nail on the head in a way.
I have cleaned out some things but this never
happened before.I use both firefox and internet explore,
The spell check is different in each.I love fierfox and
have had no trouble with it.This all came about when
I was using Explorer,I feel like something is ether checked
or unchecked. but for me redoing XP3 is the best.
I am a afraid to play with this to much.Thank you so much.
Any thing you want to add I would be thank full for.

Afterwards, reboot several times, then visit Update Center.
