    hello
    it often happens that when my windows XP start, the following message appears;

    Checking file system on C:
The type of file system is fat32
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.....

then it goes through a checking routine and after a minute or 2, the desktop appears. It does not happen all the time, but quite regularly.

Do you have any advice to give me ?
    thanks
    Y

Some possibilities .... could it be that you are shutting down with the power switch?
Could be that you have a scheduled setting that checks the disc for consistency on every boot up.

Start / accessories / system tools / scheduled settings....see whats in there ..
I've had stuff in there that I never scheduled ....don't remember putting into the schedule items ...
You didn't answer how you shut down ....

    Thanks, i will check.
I normally don't shut down by switching off but going through the log-off/shut-down command of windows XP.

As you a running Fat32, I would wonder the last time you did chkdsk, as its sounds like Windows is getting a file error from your HD. Check your Event Veiwer file for ERROR messages, this should point the way.:)

You only run XP? No other win9x system that needs to read your XP? If so convert your file system to NTFS.

Much more stabler & more secure. No more chkddsk at startup.

Convert FAT32 to NTFS file system.
    Start/Run.......convert [drive letter]: /fs:ntfs ENTER

NOTE: you cannot go back to FAT32
