XP unable to install new HD

Please help - XP sees the new HD but says it does not have the proper driver for it???? The Seagate web site says that all windows machines already have the drive loaded so there is no need to download one/ Please help.

 

I had the same problem with a Seagate external about a year and a half ago, I took it back and got a Western Digital, and then another. I buy Maxtor for internal. Do you have SP2 installed? Which Seagate HDD is it? Have you tried WIndows/Microsoft Update. I assume the hard drive package has the Windows logo on the box and that it did not come with a CD with driver/software on it. Hope you get it situated, or at least have your receipt. You could try to install the driver manually by right clicking on the HDD in question in Device Manager (Start, Run, devmgmt.msc, OK) , choose Update Driver..., when it asks "Can Windows connect with Windows Update to search for the software" Say "Yes, this time only" and proceed. If that doesn't work say "No, not this time". Then "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Then choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install." You should see a screen like the attachment, hopefuly the hardware/driver is listed and digitally signed. Sorry if I have any typos, I am using Internet Explorer, I should know better.

hi, have you formatted your harddrive yet useing device manager,
sometimes that can sort yur problem out,
