I upgraded an xp machine to windows Vista. The Vista will not go to service pack 1. So I am stuck with older version of Ie. Its not for lack of trying. I guess 2 months of every day at 3 am, and a few times of manual.
I posted earlier and have tried every suggestion to no avail. The computer has started locking up at times, usually when idle. Today it gave an XP update error. It boots to Vista ultimate but obviously there is still debris from previous os. Could this be the cause of failing to update/upgrade?

I cannot figure out how to insert screen shot so I will attach in .doc

    that did not work either

its a pop up with warning that support for XP ended in april 2014

    Any thoughts?

Upgrades are not always successful so where it's possible a clean install is usually recommended. As you are getting messages which refer to XP you can be sure your Vista installation is rather less than perfect and may well account for your inability to install SP1.

Vista is the last MS OS not to include a screenshot capability but if that popup is the only message you are getting we don't need to see it.

So is a clean install not possible? It means reinstalling all your software, and that in turn means you need to be able to put your hands on the installation media - usually CDs or downloaded installation files.

Of course, Vista itself is an old OS. Is there no way you could move on to Win 7?

    Thanks ,
I am going to go to 7, I can use it and wont be abandoning my current software.
