xp user password

Having installed xp and setting up user accounts I have forgotton my password to get into it.
My other accounts are on limited user and I cannot gain access via them. I am the only computer administrator.

Can any of you guys help me out?

I think the easiest way is to reboot in safe mode, use the administrator account (no password req'd) and simply remove the password from your account. Reboot in normal and reapply a password if you wish.

 

If your admin account isn't passworded - that is a BAD thing. Number one security hole. People who operate botnets (that is, infect a large number of computers with a malicious program to help in DDoS attacks) most often use a hole in out-of-date firewall software and then exploit the fact that the Admin password is blank.

If you have forgotten your admin password, then there are a couple of options available. The easiest is this: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Read the instructions thoroughly and you should be able to reset your password to blank which allows you to log in and reset all your passwords to something reasonabley secure (not a word that would be in a dictionary, use numbers letters and preferabley non-alphanumeric characters like % or ") and you should be fine.

It was an old PC that I needed to get something from and thought i would never need to. Sod's law eh.

Mullet got me into it straight away and problem solved and password reapplied.
