XP virus damage???

My wifes PC didnt have any virus software I know just plane dumb.. just didnt get around to downloading AVG for a while since we have such a crap slow connection here in Bali.

Anyway downloaded AVG, which came up with 3 virus warnings. PSW.onlinegames.2.5
win32\samll\start.exe +peum02.exe
.v awi.gen.akys (wifes writing so not sure if this is correct)

I have 2 hard drives, C: plus another physical hard drive that is divided into 3 virtual drives. AVG appeared to clean everything up ok but now when I am in My Computer you click on 3 virtual drives Icons and windows pops up with the "Choose which program you want to open this file" box. To me it looks like explorer has lost the file assotiation. Same happens with a flash drives but not C: ( and weirdly 1 of the virtual drives is sometimes ok as well)
You can click on the + sign and expand the files no problem but you cant right click and exporer either.

I would consider rebuilding except that my wife has a wedding to photograph soon and needs the PC.

 

Also System Restore fails on all restore points.

• If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
