Ok so I have XP installed but it's USELESS for games (read: ATI card). How do I go about installing w2k as dual boot with XP and bypass the "too old" whinge alert when I try and install? I don't have any more floppy disks, I'd have to walk into town and buy more. It's very cold outside, it ain't gonna happen. Is it still possible from inside XP? Should I create a separate partition for w2k?

I found even Windows ME to be a better gaming OS than XP. I really doubt w2k could be any worse. About 30% of my games don't work with Xp. This is using all manner of Catalyst drivers and different updates. Either my setup is wrong for XP or I'm just plain unlucky. I'm not a total newbie but I can't get most games to work in XP properly. I'll check out the link once I'm properly doped up on coffee. Cheers.

I'm running dual boot xp pro and 2000 pro.
each OS on separate partitions also have two other partitions for storage.
If you have multiple partitions should be easy, just insert disk and follow setup instructions, you will have to choose a partition where to install, other than the one your current OS is.
after install you can choose which OS to boot first

I'm not a gamer but there may be answer to why your unable to play your games on xp.
post your games and problems someone here can probably help find solution

XP is not the problem, my Hardware configuration is. Because games that don't run in XP run well in WinME. But ME crashes like a beotch all the time. W2K is supposed to be stable and good for games. I really don't have a choice. Go back to win98? I'm a major league caffeine addicted nightgamer so I need the games to work. Hitman 2 drops me to desktop. Conflict Desert Storm loads intro screen and drops to desktop. Things like this are starting to annoy me. I need my fix of digital violence to be bug free.

I just need to find an erm, "features opener" for Partition Magic 8 and figure out in which kind of chunks I'll splice it.

Hmmmm, what all games are you playing that won't work? I'm running Win XP Pro SP1, 9800XT with latest drivers and I have Halo, Star Wars Galaxies. Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, Soldier of Fortune, M$ Combat Flight Sim, M$ Flight Sim 2004, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004, Counter Strike, and Moto GP. All run great with no problem.

As a last resort, you could try right clicking on the games desktop icon. Click properties, and under the compatibility tab adjust the compatobility mode to an older OS. Also, istead of using the desktop icon, try using the the start/programs short cut or the exe. in the actual games folder. After playing MANY different games on XP, these 2 things fixed any problem I've had in XP with games(which is VERY few for the amount of games I've played).

Alright I'll try those tips. I'll tell ya if the "special" software guide works tomorrow. I hope.

NTLDR & NTDETECT don't even exist on my system so I couldn't try the "special software" solution even if I wanted to. And I couldn't find a decent free HD partitioning app that would let me actually SAVE my choices or even a working crack for one of the better HD partitioning appz. I tried for hours and got pissed off. So I had to install W2K on the same partition as XP since a friggin' CPU usage bug kept getting worse and my CPU usage kept rushing to 100% all the time, like every minute. And now I have roughly the same problem I had with XP all the time. Which is that the CPU usage goes to 80-100% all the time without any virus or visible proggie using it. I'm beyond pissed already. Could the high CPU usage have anything to do with the fact that I installed all the "fixes" or that it's intertwined with XP somehow? I can't even browse my pics without the music stuttering like crazy. It's moderately better than XP in the fact that it doesn't go to full 100% and force me to shut down all the time but it still blows.

    First off
    Post your pc's specs
secondly why would you try and or load xp & win 2000 on same partition,
They need to be on thier own partitions, (I have two dual boot pc's that run flawless). CPU running at 100% humm? what programs are running?
I dont know much about your rig, my advice would be to wipe your hdd,
delete your partition & format & create new partitions atleast 2 one for each OS, I would consider additional partitions for storage.
I would format in NTFS file system
you could use Fdisk, or what kind of hdd do you have, format download's at manufacture web site.

Trust me, I know all about partitions and what needs to be where. The last thing I wanted was to install them on the same partition. But as I said, I could not find a disk partitioning proggie that worked and I need to write stuff or else I'll start to lag behind. The problem that XP sends my CPU usage to 100% is impossible to resolve. No matter what combination of drivers, version of XP or updates I use the CPU usage will sooner or later jolt to 100%. This does not happen in WinME, ever. I already bought a new HD this week because I thought it might be the problem. Same problems as the old appear. I have one of my old bitch drives installed as slave but I find it hard to believe it could be causing these probs since I only use it as storage and it's halfway broken anyway (bad sectors).

    CPU useage at 100%...

You wouldn't be talking about System Idle Process would you ;)

Nein! I'm not a complete fool ya know. ;)

If I knew why it keeps jumping to 100% all the time I'd have resolved it a long time ago. I know all about spyware, viruses and all that jive. I've had a computer since 1991, I'm not a total fool. Might just be my hardware configuration is messed up and/or incompatible somehow. It's frustrating since I need to make bids and write crap and it's hard to win a bid or finish a sentence with the mouspointer jerking across the screen slower than hell. Maybe switching slots for the soundcard might work?
