I think that it might be a corrupt driver but am unsure of where to go next.
I have xp, updated to sp2. It was pre-installed at the factory for me so I only have the restore cd. I have d/l the set up disks but was unsure of if I should d/l the origional xp home edition (as it was installed) or the one with sp 2 (as it is now) I d/l the sp 2 one and can only go to recovery console no where near the repair information as I think I need. I have just d/l the origional and am going to try that but from the recovery console I did run chkdsk/p and it did say that there were errors on the disk, then I ran chkdsk/r and then chkdsk/p again and it reported errors still.
When I let it boot up in windows, it boots up and there is no mouse nor keyboard function. everything else looks normal. If I try to boot up in safe mode I am unable to select anything to logon with.
I have no trouble in the recovery console nor in dos prompt through the restore choice. I do have a list of device settings from the device manager through the recovery console and can use the commands from there with no problem.
I do have a print out with a lot of my system information through sandra from last year that is relatively current and I have not added any new programs to the computer at all, I am stumped!! Even though I am no expert, with the help of the net and this forum, I have been able to rescue all information and restore the system on my old 98 when my son has crashed it with out questions. Now I'm hoping someone can help! please give me ideas to try so I can see if I missed something- dh wants the computer back and I'm getting a headache!
    Thanks!
    Laurie
