    XP Pro, Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600, Dell Optiplex GX110, Pentium 3, 730MHZ, 256M ram.

When I try to start in safe mode all I get is a black screen. If I use F8 or msconfig I still get black screen. I have tried sfc /scannow, still not working. I have the Winfixer virus/spyware that I cannot get rid of. I also have 100% CPU usage untill I shut down Norton Internet security. When I shut down Norton CPU usage drops but then the Winfixer nag shows up. I have scanned with Norton, Spybot, NoAdware, AdAware Pro to no avail. I want to run in safe mode to do all these scans again but cannot get running in safe mode. Any help would be appreciated:eek: Elast

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal - some people also refer to this as WinFixer

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Went through instructions as requested witout missing/skipping a step. I could not do in safe mode. I cannot get into safe mode. Ran Ccleaner (Log Attached) Ran MWMSRT, Ran Ad-Aware SE full system scan, Ran Spybot, Ran Microsoft Antispyware, Ran CWShredder and Kill2Me, Also ran VundoFix. Just about all programs found issues. Ran Bit Defender (Log Attached) Then Panda Scan (Log Attached). Finally ran HijackThis (Log Attached). The issue that I had with 100% CPU usage in Explore.exe appears to be gone but I believe that I am still infected. Please look at scans and let me know which direction to take. Thanks for all the help! Elast:)

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvvw - awvvw.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: hgged - hgged.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode (if possible otherwise try normal mode) and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\eraseme_83012.exe
    C:\winapi23.exe
    C:\winapi64.exe
    C:\winapi32.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Followed instructions above except that the ....eraseme_83012.exe cannot be found, file....eraseme_60771.exe was there, I deleted this one. It had 0KB in properties, also winapi23.exe and winapi64.exe were not found. I found winapi32.exe and deleted. I searched for the others but nothing was found. View hidden files is on. HJT log attached. I do have safe mode back. Thanks again Elast:)

Your log is clean. You do have a major non-malware issue though. And the issue is that your OS and IE versions are way out of date and represent a major security risk to you. Following the steps below will address this and other issues.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
