I was going through your steps on "read & run me first" at the Remove Malware forum. The PC would not boot to safe mode, from using the F8 key. It would start and then reboot. So I did the Symantec deal by using: Run, then msconfig, and on the boot tab checking Safe Boot. Now the PC just reboots over and over. It won't boot in any mode.
i posted a help in that forum with no replies. So I'm coming to this forum for help, please!

Is this XP or Vista, and do you have an installation disk (not a recovery disk) for whichever it is?

Its xp, and no I don't have the recover disks. I tried to make them, put the PC has malware and would not let me create them.

A recovery disk wouldn't help anyway. You need an XP installation disk for your version - Home or Pro. Any possibility of borrowing one from a mate?

I have an XP disk. What do I do, I don't want to reformat.

Someone gave me an ERD bootable cd, ERD Commandor 2005, but I don't know how to use it. Would this help me?

While I've been away you have now received different advice, so you can try both methods if one does not work.

Booting from your XP CD follow the link in Australien's post to get into the Recovery Console, but instead of renaming boot.ini enter -
    FIXMBR <Enter>
    FIXBOOT <Enter>

While I was away you've got more advice, so if one does not work, try the other ;)

Booting from your XP CD follow the article Australien linked you to to get into the Recovery Console, but instead of renaming boot.ini, type -

    FIXMBR <Enter>

    FIXBOOT <Enter>

    Good luck :)

Sorry 'bout the double post. Thought the first had disappeared while I was typing.

Bit more ... don't try to follow the advice in that article about installing the Recovery Conole. You don't need to do that. Just boot your XP CD and follow the Repair links, which take you into Recovery Console.

thank you for your help, I used the ERD CD and I used the restore point, and it worked. I went back to Oct 1st. I'm now running the Cleanup procedure from your site. Thanks again. You guys have never let me down.:wave
