Am I being a bit naiive here?
I fitted my A7V8X-X mobo with an XP2400 chip, went into the BIOS and upped the fsb to 160 and reduced the multiplier until it booted.
WinXP now reports it as an XP24000 running @ 2.4GHz.
It's been running like this now for a few hours with 100% load (folding@home) and is reading 58C on the CPU temp. I've also run 3DMark2001 a few times with no problems.
Can I start to believe my system is happy? Or is there something I've missed??

So your multiplier is set at 15X and your FSB is 160? That is pretty damn good if that is what it is set at. I could only get mine up to around 2.2ghz.

Uses this program, and look at what it says. This should be 100% accurate.

Wow. I bow to you master!!!

That is great. Care to post your full system specs? I have a 2400 chip laying around i want to get it up and folding again. It would be great if i could have a boost like that.

Also what kind of cooling are you using?

    Anyway great job!

    LOL!! Thanks :)

    XP2400
Thermaltake 80mm fan on reducer onto Microfin XP Cooler running at 2500rpm (quiet)
    ASUS A7V8X-X BIOS 1012
Zalman ZM 400B APS (quiet psu)

    Any more info needed?

If I turn the fan on to 'fast' it brings the cpu down to 43C but it's too noisy for me..!

I've googled to see what other people had and 2.4 seems to be what a few people have managed - going up to 2450 had stability problems (I haven't tried yet as I wasn't sure if something horrible was going to happen - that's why I came here to ask!!)

If I can manage 2.4 with my horrible air rig, why are people spending a fortune on Pelt and water systems??!!
