    OK, when I start up my rig when the windows splash/boot/post screen comes up the load bar will freeze then reboot. It will do this 1-6 times before starting up. Once I get into windows my rig is fine and stable, both stock and overclocked. I have delt with this for 3 months and I have asked every forum/search/suppot places on the web. No one has any idea what the problem is.

    I have had this problem since I built this rig 3 month ago. I have tested every part in my rig in another rig and all are fine. I have reinstalled XPMCE at least 15 times and all clean installs. Done mem. tests and Prime is stable 12 hrs. I have done barebones boots and have tryed other parts also to make sure nothing is wrong with mine.

    I now am waiting for a New XP Pro to come tomarrow. I just want to see if anyone has any clue why this would happen. I am afraid that it will still happen once I do a clean install of Pro. If it does I am at a loss, cuz I would think I have a bad XPMCE disk and thats why I have this problem. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi WakeUpDead.
    It's "divide and conquer" time. I'm assuming that the Sam 120GB drive is your boot drive, so just for "fun" remove the Maxtor 200GB and the Sony CDRW. Connect the hard drive to IDE1 using the last connector on the cable.
    (IDE1 []======[]==[] HD )
    Connect IDE2 to the DVD.
    ( IDE2 []=======[]==[] DVD ).
    Set the jumpers on each of these two devices to MASTER. To avoid rf reflections in the cable the MASTER device should always be connected the furthest away. Upon reboot, you will have a working box or else you get new information. :)

    Yep did that and even have installed on Maxtor drive by itself and still same problem. Any other thoughts? I just think I have a bad disk, I hope anyhow. To add I also had problems with it rebooting while I installed XPMCE and that happened during all 15 installs aon both HDDs and in all diffrent set ups. I dont know, just my luck to have an issue that no one can solve. Thanks for your suggestion.

    Hi WakeUpDead.
    I'm not familiar with your MoBo but most use a bridged PCI/IDE controller arrangement. My next "try" would be - remove all PCI devices from the MoBo. If they're on board, then disble them in the CMOS setup. That includes LAN and Sound and TV Tuner card. I'm still thinking "other" hardware is the problem, and not your hard drive.

    Ok, I think I got it fixed, I went ahead and took my rig apart(5th time in 3 months) Anyway, I put it back together, just the minimum parts. Then flashed the bio's(the same ones I had) booted the system. It worked right off the bat. I restarted it about 10 times to make sure it was working and it never rebooted at all. I then added parts one at a time, till I had everything back in. Restarted about 10 more times and its all working fine. Now I dont know what I did any diffrent than I have done in the past, I just know its working now and Im not going to touch it till I get my two SLI cards, next week. Thanks for your help I wish I could tell you how I fixed it, just luck I guess, Thanks

    Hi WakeUpDead
    Good going. Although it would be "nice to know", how you fixed it, I think the lesson learned is that your persistance paid off. It's a good feeling and you've earned it. :)
