XPS Document Writer removal

I feel like such a whimp when it comes to computers, it is so embarrassing. But I sure could use some help. A few weeks ago, my printer started to print out blanks. I have done every troubleshooting I could do under the help sections. The only thing I noticed different was the addition of an XPS document writer printer which I did not add. After reading what I could find, it appears that this document writing came as part of an automatic update. I uninstalled and reinstalled my printer drivers and software for my brother MFC 420CN printer with pro-suite software. I downloaded a to fix it software from the technet site of microsoft and everything is supposed to be running fine. I deleted the XPS doc writer as suggested and again made sure my brother printer was the default. I did a test print and the only thing that prints is the widows flag in the upper left hand corner of the paper. My computer will not let me do a system restore going back 1 or 2 months or even 1 or 2 weeks so I can't get rid of it. I tried in safe mode with no luck either. This thing is driving me absolutely nuts and so much valuable time. I am trying to buy a house and cannot even print off any documents that I need to sign. Please help me get rid of this. I need very easy to follow instructions please.

Have you tried pressing F8 at boot, takes you to Windows Advanced Options Menu then scroll down to Last Known Good Configuration, this will reverse your PC settings to it's settings when it was working properly, just like System Restore, try this and let us know how you get on !

 

Thanks Rusty, When I do the f8, it comes up to choose between safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode and something else. I finally had one of my sons friends come over and not sure what he did but I now can print. Very grateful for your help.
