Yahoo messenger: contact not "recognized"

If this has been dealt with elsewhere I apologize (I did a search, but came up w/ nothing).

Without warning, one of my "friends" on the Yahoo messenger is on the blink. We haven't "ignored" each other or made any other changes that I can find, but neither of us can see when the other one is online, and offline messages don't go through either. This is only with one contact.

Anybody ever run into this before? I've tried to go to Yahoo for help, but their help system is...unhelpful.

PS I'm on XP, latest bells n' whistles, and this problem is, again, only with one contact...

 

have you both tried removing each others contact from the list and then putting eachother back in?

 

Yup, we both thought of that. I've never had this problem before!
