For the past few hours, I've been trying to get it to connect; however, it won't. On Friday, it worked fine. Now, it does nothing. I was out of town from saturday until tonight so I have no idea what could have changed from then till now.

I don't have any problems connecting to MSN or AIM. I've tried using the "no network detection" and that doesn't seem to help. I have a broadband connection through a router and I've never had problems with it in the past. I uninstalled, deleted the yahoo folder, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, and still wouldn't connect. It doesn't give me any message, just after about a minute it goes back to the sign in form. To test that the program was getting connected to the internet, I tried to create a new ID through the yahoo messenger program. The program connected just fine to find available IDs but I chose to make my own and I chose one that was already created. Yahoo Messenger connected to the yahoo database and found out that it was already created and told me that it was unavailable so that proved to me that it is connecting to the internet but the messenger service won't initialize for whatever reason.

One other thing that may be of interest is that whenever I go to connection preferences, under the "internet connection:" it has dialup and it won't let me change it to broadband. I had my brother try on his computer and it connected using my ID and password just fine. Under his "internet connection:" it said broadband.

I do have the newest version and I have tried 7.5 with the same results and the firewall is turned off. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

No, password didn't change. I figured it out. My hard drive was going bad and apparently some of the TCP/IP data or yahoo data was affected.

New XP installation + different HD = problem fixed
