First of all, thanks for this site, i have been using it for years and see it as the ultimate resource. I recommend it enough to own shares in it...

I have of course read the sticky but following delicate sit.

I game on my office computer (op. fashpoint, only after business hours, of course!), and have noticed that sometimes my ping on a particular MP server goes from the usually very very low (meaning 7-12) to very high (500-700), for no discernable reason, no special application running, whatever. I can see that something is going own because even my surfing on internet slows way down. (Win XP Service Pack 2 btw)

When I look at the "network activity" however i do not see any activity at all (1 GB connection), if my Norton AV was updating wouldn't I see under activity? Still have bout 3 packets a second going out.

Tricky thing is I have a real-life "sensitive" job, it is really possible that some arcane junk is on my PC, and that through some backdoor I am uploading files a la Ghostnet.

Would SUPERantispy find any of this stuff? I also have Norton, but ignore it (I don't scan at the same time, so is it ok to run both?). Also, even though I was able to instal SUPERanitspy I am not able to normally install programs (privileges).

Obviously I am trying to avoid fessing up to my sysadmin.- What would you suggest?

    Sheepishly yours,

    S

Then you should not be gaming on this computer. You are risking exactly what you are afraid of.

We can only help you if you can follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

I cant help you with that decision. But if you are able to do any of our instructions, and attach the logs, we may be able to help get you clean.

Thanks for your reply. I found the culprit----something was doing its updates at the "wrong" time...sorry for wasting your time.
