I guess there's been so many of these posts... sorry, but here's another one. I cant quite seem to find other problems like mine, so here goes.

prior to upgrade, everything was perfect. (Thanks BILL !!!)

    Flat lan: 192.168.0.x
    http://www.stillmymind.com/mylan.jpg

    1 x win2k
    1 x winXP home sp2 (ugh!)
    1 x IP laser printer.

the win2k pc has 2 NIC's, and is the internet gateway, with cable delievry, and has ZoneAlarm.

    after the upgrade...
the win2k has access to the workgroups shares.
the winXP has access to the workgroups shares.
the winXP cannot get internet access.
    the winXP cannot print.
the winXP can ping 127.0.0.1 successfully
the winXP cannot ping itself. (error 65).
the winXP cannot ping any other host. (error 65).
the win2k can ping anything successfully

No need to blame Zonealarm if the XP pc can't ping itself.
All my network shares are in place, so what the hell's going on!
    Arrrrgh!

    thanks guys.

Error 65 is a specific message when Zone Alarm or similar firewall is malfunctioning on the system.

Uninstall Zone Alarm from the XP machine.

Even if you don't "see" Zone Alarm on the system, its either in Add/Remove programs, or id you go under services.msc, you will find a true vector service.

Alas, Zone alarm is not on the XP PC, but on the internet gateway (Win2k).
the win2k PC can ping anything successfully.

    I'm telling ya...

Error 65 is because of a third party firewall.

99% of the time its ZA.

    Well I'll be Damned

Adrynalyne was RIGHT... it was Zone Alarm on the winXP PC but listen to this!!!

about 5 months agao I uninstalled Zone alrm on this PC coz I didnt think I needed it on both PCs.
BUT... the TrueVector Service was still present, and became re-activated after the WinXP SP2 upgrade. What The?!?!?!

I looked in the Add-remove programs listing and Zone Alarm was not present.

has anyone ever heard of this sort thing before????

Thanks for all your input guys!
    You're Ledgends!

    regards,

If you need to get rid of that service, you can reinstall ZA, and then uninstall it again.

    Easiest way I've found.
