son and wife are starting a new business. contacting vendors and suppliers getting all their ducks in a row. need computers. go straight to DELL as they have dealt with them before, and daughter-in-law thinks sun rises and sets at their corporate hdqtrs. hour or more on phone ordering 3 computers for over $7000.00. thank you for your order, they will arrive in 7 to 10 business days. Seven business days later son calls DELL to find out delivery status of computers. half hour on phone again, oh, that order was cancelled later that day. well, why did you cancel the order that afternoon when everything was fine with it earlier that morning? well, you see, when financing saw that it was charged to a business account that was a start-up business, they cancelled the order. we cannot charge anything to a business that is a start-up business.

I could care less about DELL, but with all their advertising spouting professionalism and customer service, why the hell couldn't they, or some peon at one of their overseas help centers have the common courtesy to at least place a call back to explain that there was a problem???????? "please stay on the line for our next available sales specialist, as you, our valuable customer are very, very important to us" yea, right. It's not just DELL. It seems to be with all business's anymore. Something always seems to go wrong.
    okay, end of mini rant.
daughter-in-law does not think so highly of DELL anymore. I know it is not a $100,000 order, but they still lost $7000.00 in sales. Costco or Sam's will take their money now, and probably not as much of it.

Customer service seems to be a thing of the past now.

Gotta ask, why not build them yourself? $1400 would make a nice box, 7000-4200= $2800 savings...

to be honest, I don't have the time and the daughter-in-law does not trust anything home built. I wouldn't trust myself either if I were to run into a problem. I know I would be able to figure it out and get it going eventually, but not under a time schedule. she will not take any advice on anti virus and firewall software either, only believing in norton and Mcafee. they have the money and I want peace amongst the family.
it's snowing out, I got the stove in the shop fired up, got an office cabinet made and gonna get me and the wife a brand new, rooooomy desk for the computer made and get rid of this clutter. can't take it no more. I'll post the pictures when I get it finished.

If that is the case, Dell is the way to go. Sorry about the firewall and antivirus options. You work with what you have.

Sad how customer service has just gone down the tubes.

If we're mudslinging at Dell, we bought a low end Inspiron laptop, and we were promised delivery within the week. Well, you can imagine what happened, go to the ship date page and it kept being pushed back. When we finally phoned threatening to cancel, they finally coughed up. A real bad experience and I will never deal with them again.

Now that they are closing their Austin plant and laying off 8800 folk as part of their reduction, I would trust them even less, if that's possible, with them going to a razor thin JIT philosophy of stock. Never again!

I have no bones to pick regarding dell computers as a product, just the way management projects their caring and regard for the customer as a whole. As with Fred it's just sad the way some businesses handle simple problems. Dell makes a fine product, but, just over this one tiny incident, I and a couple of others will never buy a dell product.
