you want to glue what?

I have a friend who wants to glue fabric (velvet) to his guitar. Really.... don't ask......


Anyway, I had gotten an email link from Joann's or Michaels or something like that a couple of months ago to a site that had two windows with options for 2 different materials and then would suggest the best adhesive to use to bond them. For example, I would pick wood and fabric and it would tell me what adhesive to use. I have been going nuts looking for this site and can't find it. I wondered if anyone else knows about it, or is willing to do a little googling around for me. Or if you have any suggestions of what he should use, I'll let him know. (I know, I don't recommend gluing anything to a guitar, but he's a rather eccentric musician.....)

Cindy...I give it 2 years before you are posting again for him, asking if anyone knows a website that says how to remove two different materials from each other that are bonded with a specific glue lol

 

This is a serious goth musician, he'll probably just bury the thing and get a different guitar when that time comes.

Just in case anyone was wondering, he ended up using a staple gun. Still makes me shudder, but what can you do.

Wear your shades Cindy...it's the only way. Tell him to lay down the staple gun slowly next to him, put his hands in the air and take three steps backward away from the gun and the guitar victim. Then with a flying summersault into the air, pounce on him, cuff him, and make your citizen's arrest

 

Take up a collection and send him out west for some intensive lessons from BluesMan on guitar building and modding?

Since a guitar is all about sustaining the vibrations that the strings set up, wrapping it in soft damping material seems pretty counter-intuitive, but he can always buy a new guitar; it's not like he's abused a person.

 

Guitars have feelings too ya know! People always play them "with feeling" and they absorb those feelings and take on a whole character and personality of their own. This is nothing short of abuse and such a crime against another should not go unpunished!

 

Why doesn't he just go to a seamstress and have a sleeve made for it with velcro up the backside of the guitar...

This would fulfill his velvet fettish, and save the finish on the guitar n hopes that once he realizes that glueing anything onto a guitar is a mistake...
