Thought it would be interesting if we each posted a link to a little news tid-bit that is of interest where we live as we come from all over the world.....there is much going on here but I've been following pretty close the efforts to get a grounded shrimp boat off the beach. Keeping my fingers crossed they can get it moved without the remaining fuel dumping. Video footage can also be found on page if'n you're interested.:)

This story has probably settled down in much of the nation, but we still hear about it here on at least a weekly basis. My wife and I live about 10 miles from the neighborhood in which Natalie Holloway's family lives.

Natalee Holloway, 18, went missing in Aruba on May 30.

Well, the local propaganda (aka the Free Local newspaper*) seems to be very concerned with feeding things to dogs. There were at least 3 articles that I noticed while scanning about dogs eating chocolate (then dying), dogs eating chair legs (!!?!) and dogs eating leftover food and getting sick.

So ... populus of Wycombe, don't feed your dogs.

    ... Hang on, that's not right.... :p
    * there is no reason for this newspaper to be, other than to program the local public. Every resident gets it, it comes through every door. You can hardly help but see at least the front cover. I'm certain that those sorts of publications contribute a lot to emissions, and the local authority paper recycling service was implemented purely due to this ruddy newspaper. </rant> ;)

I edited my post to include a link to the news story, which I kinda forgot (Oops!)

Well, put it this way if a meteorite was going to hit him, I don't think he would even have time to say "ouch!", much less duck and run behind a car and just happen to find a big chunk.

Probably one of the famous local beach rocks with the water 'craters' on it.

I sure wish I could post some good news from my area, but that's not likely to happen. For the last week or so, our news consisted of:
    1. Person\persons unknown broke into the "Make A Wish" Foundation and helped themselves to all the donated gifts that were to be for terminally ill childern.
    2. State execution of murderer. Oldest man ever put to death.
    3. Man gets 124 years for the murder of his girlfriend and wounding of her 2 brothers.
    4. Man stabs wife 14 times...she survives.
    5. Escaped murderer caught in Flowood.
    6. Mississippi ranked unhealthest state.
Here's a link to one of our local television stations and see for yourself http://www.thejacksonchannel.com/index.html Also, here's another one http://www.wlbt.com/ Sure, there are some good stories, but the bad outweigh the good.

LOL. My local news is a lot like Stubby's

Memphis city and county governments are way in the red.
    Gun fired in a classroom.
    Cops indicted for misbehavior.
Investigation into a crooked election where dead people voted.
    Various murders, robberies, and scams.

One little tidbit presented as "local news", although it's not, is that Uncle Sam has been collecting a 3% tax on cellphones that's illegal.

Last Saturday me and my brother had a few drinks and decided to get a chinese and dvd 10 minutes before the DVD store closed,as we were entering the DVD store a guy was staring at us and acting all agitated is the best way to describe it,there was girl with him who seemed to be calming him down,we thought nothing of got a DVD American pie band camp 'not as good as the others but quite funny'

Anyways we went into the chinese ordered and waited for our food, next minute police come running into the chinese and demanded the cctv tape,as we were walking home we saw someone who had just come from near the DVD store and asked what was going on,the store had been held up at knife point by a lone guy he'd got away with around £140,no one was hurt.

We both looked at each other and said 'I bet it was that guy' ,sure enough half way though band camp there was a knock at the door and there stood two cops, they had found out my address from my DVD store account I was the last one to get a DVD that night,so we went down to the station 'It'll only take half an hour lads' 2 hours later we emerged from the copshop after both giving a description of the guy and girl waiting outside

Our descriptions have matched the girls who was held at knifepoint so turns out it was that guy and he was carrying a knife, good job we didnt keep staring at him eh?

I cant find anything on the web about it and it only got a 2 x 3 box on page 8in the local paper,a bit frightening really

Interesting night all in all :)

We've been voted one of the most dangerous cities in the country. Much smaller than Los Angeles, yet we have a much higher crime rate. Of colurse, we have a city within a city, thats 1 square mile, and has its own separate police department.

Good thing I live outside Tucson.

Tucson is only 15 minutes away though. As well, I dont know if living in Green Valley is actually referred to as, living.

This place isn't hickville, but the only big thing that ever happens here is when I get mistaken for an employee at the local Walmart.

    Agreed.

Anyway, heres the headlines from the local Wexford paper:
    Festival to Survive
The Wexford Opera Festival gets a new (temporary) home.

    Stabbing tore family apart
Stuff like this is still (fortunately) a fairly big deal in Ireland, so this story has been in the local press for quite some time.

Change the law say crash victim’s parents
There are far too many deaths on Irish roads, mainly due to alot of our rural roads being in a terrible state and the fact that we are a nation of drunks. Even despite Road Safety ads that are VERY graphic, people just don't think.

I agree 100% with you Publius, but in this case Hell is TOO good for him\her! They do, however, have a picture of the person that they think did it via the buildings security cameras and have asked the public's help in finding this person. And yes, if I would happen to see this person, I would turn him\her in to the police, but not until this person 'slipped on a bar of soap!' No, I'm not a violent person, but there is NO earthly reason why someone would have to steal from children, terminally ill or not!! But being that they are terminally ill and possibly this may be their last Christmas makes this crime even more horrendous and unforgivable!
