Your Opinion

Well I have finally come up with the cash to build a machine. I was looking at AMD for the processor but may consider INTEL, especially after seeing a little video on Tom's Hardware site. If your fan goes out AMD don't last too long. I'm not a gamer. I want a machine basically to do a little programming, some stuff with web developement, Internet, email, maybe some audio stuff. I know there are some good motherboards out there with on board sound thats not too bad and pretty good video. I would like to build the system with a budget of $1000 to $1200. If needed I could come up with maybe $200 to $300 more but really don't want too. I have been looking at one hardware website that has what looks like some pretty good deals on 19 inch LCD, I don't know if I want to go that way or maybe a 21inch CRT. I just don't want to buy a bunch of lowend crap. Let me know what your thoughts are as far as hardware.

If your fan goes out, any brand cpu will fry quickly.
I have 21" Dell Trinitron CRT, I love it, If it broke I'd have to buy another ya get used to the big view.
I'd skip the onboard video, but you said your not a gamer, so get lower end AGP card, I'm not gamer either but I have a couple of rigs that I use AGP video card that supports Dual monitors (love that too), bought for around $50 each, better than Onboard stuff and I could play most any game if I wanted too.
Onboard sound I'm fine with that, most any board has 5 channel onboard.
Probably can get more for your money with AMD, and still have top notch rig.
What ever CPU ya use, some good brands of MOBO are Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, I been very happy with the three Asus rig's I own.
$1200 should get good rig, you could maybe use some parts from what ever your running now.
