I think it depends on the circumstances. Did your sister get paid to look after your dad/did she pay rent ? I do know caring is a hard job as my own father has alzheimers so myself and brothers and sisters rally around to give mum a break.

    HI

To be honest and even taking into concideration that your sister was your late dads carer, that you should at least get half of the estates value. Now you could come to a compromise with your sister as I would imagine you both do not wish to fall out over money? is that £40k seems a fair settlement over the full £52k for you to get from your dads estate, becasue I get the feeling she wouldnt wish to sell the house?

House prices while slow in UK at present, that value will only go up so she will have a good selling price higher than it is now in a few years, so really and as she is willing to pay you for your 50% do come to a realistic value for your half.

Hard decision to make and one you will alone have to do, as money and families dont mix!

Jenny on the information you gave i think half is fair for you both as your sister was receiving financial help. At the end of the day its your choice and as Halo has said money and families don't mix.

I basically had the same thoughts. Bit less than half, but still a fair sum of cash. I, myself am a Carer for a family member, but that is way more than I could ever get, so I would say the income plus the house is a pretty decent deal, imo.

I think the 40000 would be fair, with a provisor that you get 1/2 of anything over 80000 if she sells the house within a certain timeframe.

She should certainly benefit for being the caregiver, but you should not lose out if the house value really climbs.

hi thanks for you replys as my sister got £200 to herself each week after the bills were paid from my dads money money and benefits i think that as she has saved £40.000 from it then i would purpose £20.000 for her to give me as then we will each have £20.000 and if in the furture she sells the house then what is left over from the house after her buying a flat we should have half each what do you think to that.

    Hi

Thats not a bad compromise, but as I dont know how well you get on with your sister and taking into concideration the evils of money, if you are going this route then have some legal document drawn up as to what % over and above what is resonable for a flat is your payment, as playing devils advocate, your sister could in effect buy a flat worth the total value of the sale of the house leaving you nothing?!

But £20K to start does seem resonable.
