    Hi Peoples -

    Thanks for the opportunity to post in a forum & seek help - most appreciated.

    So, somehow my system seems to have contracted a firefox hijack which calls itself "your profit club" - which was linked to a phoney windows defender application - spybot search & destroy seemed to kill the windows defender segment of infection (although now everytime i start computer find myself with a "failed to initialise ..." message - perhaps the registry keys weren't fully deleted?) - i followed all the steps in the other similar threads, and tried to find a solution which involved me not having to post, but tdsskiller & combofix & gored & MGtools dont seem to have done anything besides create lots of logs - which i will attatch the main specific ones here - umm any advice? and thanking you in advance for any time given to this problem
    okay

    Hi there and welcome. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make to you.

    Running from: c:\users\PANDA\Downloads\ComboFix.exe <--- This needs to be directly on your desktop not here where you have it. Please move it there now before we continue.

    Please disable Spybot's TeaTimer. It will hinder the fix.

    How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {472734EA-242A-422b-ADF8-83D1E48CC825} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    is3srv
    szkg5
    eluwwbwd
    Folder::
    c:\programdata\STOPzilla!
    C:\Users\PANDA\AppData\Local\43189271
    C:\ProgramData\43189271
    File::
    c:\windows\SySWOW64\drivers\is3srv64.sys
    c:\windows\SySWOW64\DRIVERS\szkg64.sys
    C:\Windows\SysNative\drivers\kgpcpy.cfg
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\eluwwbwd.sys
    C:\Users\PANDA\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\43189271
    c:\windows\SysWow64\6a181e19.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\6a181e19.exe
    c:\windows\SysWow64\ekmfrxfdtx.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\ekmfrxfdtx.exe
    C:\windows\SysWow64\ca50d9fd.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\ca50d9fd.dll
    C:\Users\PANDA\AppData\Local\hxx.exe
    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\~\Browser Helper Objects\{3407a03e-ed76-c5f5-cecc-165c34c45d59}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    You need to download and run both Malware Bytes and SUPERantispyware as per the instructions in the Read and Run Me First. Attacxh the logs into your next response.

    Run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    kestrel13 - you are neat! thanks for such a prompt reply -

    so i followed your instructions to the letter & installed malware bites/super antispyware/ & ccleaner (which is a cool program btw) - between them they found some low-level trojans and lots of adtrackers and some invalid registry keys (which fixed the annoying popup every time i logged on!) -however firefox still remains infected with the adware hijack - curious hey - i have attached all the relevant logs -

    I have to go to work soon. So just leave me a description of how things are running for you at this point. I see the pop ups are gone... Everything else alright?

    no not quite
    1 - pages still getting "diverted" to phoney ads - which can be then ignored for about 5minutes or so with the "click here to skip ad" text in the upper right corner

    2. random text seems to assign itself highlighted (like hypertext) and when the cursor hovers over it, commes up with spam links etc - however this happens to all text on any given website

    --- and none of these programs seem to be able to detect the specific virus/or hijack or what not

    ...............
    maybe i will try and repeat all the steps you have posted and see if that helps

    No. Do this:

    Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop (Let it overwrite the old copy)

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
    Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    TDSSkiller was already run. See the last MGtools log. ;)

    Where is the SUPERAntiSpyware log that the READ & RUN ME requested?

    Vibrant Media Ads are not problems.

    I know. I just thought to give it another go. :( Not needed now I guess if vibrant ads is their only problem.

    Number 2 in the list sounded like Vibrant Ads. The first item
    Sounds like what you get on some websites when they want to advertise. Especially happens alot on porn, torrent, and video download type sites. This would also not be malware but just the behavior of the website.

    Hi -

    1. okay - ran the super anti spyware - it didn't create a log? /doesn't seem to have the option to create a log..

    2. seems to be different from the 'vivrant ads' that you guys are talking about - for example if i was checking my hotmail account it will suddently pop up - all kinds of legitimate sites - and the program runs in both IE & firefox - it seems to be persistent

    3. is this unusual? have you guys heard of this? i think it might have disguised itself as some kind of java update/installer thing

    It did indeed, retrievable here: C:\Users\PANDA\AppData\Roaming\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 03-20-2011 - 03-22-47.log Please attach it for us.

    What program? Boot into safe mode with networking and surf a while. Does the same behaviour occur?

    Run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner
