YouTube stopped working...

Whenever I try to view a video on YouTube these days, I get this error message: "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

I have gone to Adobe's website and downloaded the latest Flash player, and installed it, but to no avail. I have had difficulties getting the sound to work in YouTube videos for about a week, but I didn't expect them to stop working completely. I'm sad. How do I get YouTube back?

Never mind. I managed to fix it :)

    EDIT:
Scratch that... I didn't. The sound is still either completely gone, or nothing but static. No other application has that problem.

What version of java do you have installed? And which flash player?

According to about: plugins I have Shockwave Flash 9.0 r115, and seven different versions Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03 for Netscape Navigator. The name and version numbers are the same for all five, but the file names are npjava14.dll, npjava32.dll, npoji610.dll, npjava11.dll, npjava12.dll, npjava13.dll, npjpi160_03.dll.

Now, I'm no expert, but seven different java installations looks like a few too many.

Uninstall all your old JAva and after rebooting install:
    Java Runtime 6

    Tell me how it is.

I did reinstall it last week, when the sound started to get weird, but I'm assuming I didn't manage to get rid of all the leftovers from the old version. I'll try again, and report back shortly.

Well, that fixed it. Thanks :)

However, I still don't have sound in anything in Firefox, the moment I plug in my earphones. I can hear just fine through the regular speakers, so I'm starting to wonder if this has to do with the headphone jack or settings, rather than Java...

Um....plugged into the headphone jack or the microphone jack? Headphones work elsewhere?

Heaphones plugged into the headphone jack on tower, or on speaker, with the same lack of results... and they work without any problems at all if I start up a game. It's only in browser plugins that they don't.

No you have me stumped ...they work in everything but FireFox? and if you right click or double click the sounds icon in the tray ...is anything muted?
