Have to think that if this is a licenced wine for a hit TV show that they will want to sell as many as possible so likely as you mentioned MA to be more like cooking vino than that of drinking!

I tend to stear clear of anything booze wise that is tagged onto a TV show.

LOL, what marketing 'genius' got this past the 'boss'?rolleyes :-D Hey, I'll pay $9.99 for the same wine but not pay royalties to the @#$*^% who created a horrible show! I mean, if one takes all the swearing out, they'd have almost nothing to say!

@Halo, I consider 'cooking wine' as the salt laden crap, I cook with wine that I can drink, perhaps not to your liking, but at least I can add the salt if needed.:) I'm not much of a vino person as you can tell.

Lots of 'Stars' offer their own wine label. Some colleges have a wine with the school name on them. Lots of hollywood folks and athletes have wines. Arnold Palmer, Coppola, Mario Andretti, and I think some other retired athletes have wine labels. I know some MLB players are on labels for charity. I would not buy any off it.

Most of it is most likely table wine. A lot of people buy the grapes and make wine. Consistancy can vary greatly. Personally, I will take a bottle with a plain label and excellent wine over one with a celeb on the label and jug wine inside. :-D Yeah, pass me that bottle of http://marilynwines.com/ No thanks.

As far as cooking with it, I have been told by an excellent cheif the cheap wines are usually better for cooking. I go with what I read in a wine book, cook with the wine you are going to serve with the meal. Makes sense to me.

LOTS of stars, yes. I remember reading Vince Neil from Motley Crue owns one now. Amatuer wine drinker here in process of learning about tasting and vineyards. To me, it is fascinating. I did notice in the last season of Sopranos in a scene where the ladies, including the daughter, were enjoying a bottle of wine. I recognized it a a Ruffinio Chianti Classico Reservo, still one of my favorite wines from 10 to 40 bucks. I assumed it was not a random bottle, but placed there, OR it was fruit punch put into a now empty wine bottle meaning someone on the set drank it :)

I have had the Ruffino Classico, but never the reserve. Chianti just does not interest me too much. Goes great with spaghetti!

Have you had the Classico? I am curious if the Reserve is much better. Might buy a bottle this weekend. Wine is a lot of fun. Can be confusing as heck too!:wine

If you drink the reserve, then go back, you will see a difference. Its simply the difference between a 10 dollar and 40 dollar bottle, but you need to enjoy it. I think that the 30-40 dollar bottle seems a bit overpriced. I got hooked on Ruffino in 97, a spectacular year imho. My wife found me some 97 for Xmas last year. Frankly, if you do not like a Chianti, then I feel its a waste of time to splurge on a bottle you mostly likely will not like on principle, you know? For me, if I don't like a certain type, then not much will change that. Shiraz and another company are now mixing blends with some great results.

If I am not mistaken, we have the Ruffino Reserve for around $24 or so. Not sure of the year. I have only had the cheaper Chianti. It is not a bad wine, I just lean towards others. I like the California wines and if I have the $ I get French wines.

We got around 800 cases of wine coming in Thursday, looking forward to some old favorites we have been out of for a few weeks! The part that sucks is that I get to stack said cases of wine! :cry Oh well, we got cheese to go with that whine... :-D

Yep...I agree with all the comments on cooking with wine. Don't even waste your money on the 'cooking wines' sold in the grocery stores. ick! Open up a nice bottle, pour yourself a glass, measure out what you need for your recipe, then drink the rest of the bottle. :-D

As soon as I saw this post thread, I thought of Coppola wine, which is actually very good. I think I may even have a bottle down in our wine rack.

As far as Sopranos wine...I probably wouldn't buy it on principle.

One that is out every year, but they promote it a lot during halloween is Vampire wine...it's cheap and surprisingly decent.

You could always send a few to PA, Fred. Lighten your load. ;)

Would send you some Coppola, stuff is overpriced and not too tasty. (I heard they buy their grapes).:-D

Me too, only use wine in food from the bottles I buy to drink normally with.

I generalised earlier and while some stars branded wines will be not disimilar to their own branded perfumes and aftershaves, cheap and nasty, their are some stars who do buy into vinyards and produce some great wines because of having hands on and the right folk looking after the process, one is from F1 Motor Racing star Jarno Trulli if you love traditional Italian wines then these are great.

Halo, the only real rule in wine is that there is almost always an exception.:-D

Hmm, the best wine I ever drank was in Spain in 1965 when "housewives" took a few empty bottles to the wine store in their neighborhood and had them filled up from wine barrels for a few pesetas at that time. ;) :drool

Ahh, Spanish wines... love the Tempranillo wines. And the Ports! Fred_G will fight you for the last glass of port!:-D

We have a wine called Borsao, Tempranillo and Granacha blend. I think I have posted this one before. Nice $10 bottle. I am low on wine money, will probably get one of those for the weekend.

Somehow, the exported Spanish wines are just not up to par compared with the wines that are being served locally, especially the wines from the province of La Mancha. :cry

    Their brandy "Magno" is excellent!
