Zalman heatsink installation

I'm installing a Zalman sink on my Saphirre X800GT AGP and I'm haveing some trouble on step 0. I can't even get the goddamn plug from the stock cooler out of the board. I've tried using a pliers but it just squashes the plastic a bit and slips off. What would happen if I just snipped the wires and put some electrical tape on the ends? Anything bad? The Zalman cooler plugs into the PSU so I won't be using that connection anyway.

 

Yo, if you can post up a link with the instructions, it might be a bit more helpful for us to analyze the problem.

 

Also if you can post a pic of the plug and fitting we may be able to offer a solution,is there not a plastice clip on one side of the socket that you have to prise away from the plug to remove it?

The last thing you want to do is damage the fan plug or cut the wires as that is and instant warranty violation and you have no way of repairinbg the damage icase you have to RMA it

Is that little thing a clip? I thought it was part of the plug..
The instructions don't have any info on removing the stock cooler.

 

From looking at that picture the clip is on the other side of the socket in the picture you have posted,slide a fine negative drive screwdriver or easier your finger nail behind the clip 'which is part of the socket not the plug' bend it away from the plug then gently pull the wires of the plug and it should pop out
