Hi, I was thinking about purchasing a ZEROtherm BTF90 cooler from newegg since it's on sale right now. I have a Phenom II X2 Callisto coming in soon, but it's an OEM version so it doesnt come with a cooler. I was wondering if the BTF90 is compatible with Phenom IIs? I know the Phenom II is a AM3, but I was doing some research and people were saying the AM2 and AM3 sockets are pretty much identical and from looking at the BTF90 specs on newegg it seemed to indicate that it supports AM2 processors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, it is compatible with the AM3 socket. Socket AM2 and AM3 have the same cooler mounting bracket. However, I did some quick research on the cooler you're interested in, and you could do much better for the price. The Coolermaster Hyper 212 and Hyper 212+ are cheaper and better at cooling (I just got a Hyper212+ for my PC and I love it), same with the KingWin XT-1264, SunbeamTech Core Contact Freezer, and most of the Xigmatek coolers. If size is an issue (most of the coolers I listed are pretty big) then take a look at the 92mm Xigmatek coolers. Most of 'em are under $30 and are small enough to fit in most cases. Check this link for the 92mm Xigmatek coolers available at Newegg. A great site for CPU cooler reviews and info is www.frostytech.com, check it out!

Yeah- for some reason Newegg doesn't use the names "Hyper 212" in their listing; they use the Coolermaster model numbers. Why? Who knows. Anyway- the S1283 is a fine cooler and is regularly listed in the top 10 coolers. The main reason I didn't get a Xigmatek is because they generally blow the air up into the power supply instead of out the back of the case thru an exhaust fan when mounted to an AMD motherboard (and I'm running an AMD). But this depends on the orientation of the CPU bracket, and really isn't a big deal, but I'm particular that way. ;)
