Hello, I hope I'm in the right forum as the section about Iomega zip disks was old and closed...

I thought I could save my stuff with Iomega zip disks 100, but the dozen or two disks I bought, haven't worked properly, so I'll use a 4GB flash drive (when I learn how to use it) that someone made me buy.

My question: Since I won't use these zip disks anymore, I wonder whether I should delete an icon on my desktop (ioware-32-8). Also 2 listings in my control panel (iomegaware, and, iomega app services. I don't know what these mean as there's no info on them as other control panel listings have, like: "Click here for support information", etc.

Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated. Thanks so much! Adela

I would go to control panel add and remove program and delete from there. Doing it ther may delete the desktop icon and the 2 listings in your control panel. However before you delete any of them make sure you have all the informaton off the zipdisk that way you will not have to worry about re installing it at a later date to retrieve you files. If after you delete the program using add and remove, if the icon is still on the desk top then you can delete it manually.

you may also want to run this app after you finish your delete just to make sure all traces of the program is gone

Hi buggabear and thank you. I went to control panel and was able to delete the iomegaware, but for the iomega app services, I got this msg:
I panicked and clicked NO but it wouldn't take it, and immediately it reapeared with another link: C:\Windows\System32\ioRdyUI.dll. It kept doing this several times and I kept clicking No, but it kept doing it with different links...Then it still deleted it!!! :confused So I hope it won't cause some problems (of which I already have so many!) :D I deleted manually the icon in my desktop.

I won't have to retrieve the data from the disk as I'll try to save everything with the flash drive I have as soon as I can. I'm sorry all these disks will go to waste as I'm told they are unreliable and I can see why - only one worked well - all the others had multiple problems, and I don't even know if my data would be retrievable...

Also thanks for this link, but I tried it sometime ago and when the results came in, it said it had caught some infections in the registry...and I don't know enough as to which files to delete and which to leave alone or fix...so I let it go. Would you have any ideas as to which are safe to delete when the results are out? I'd LOVE to clean up my entire computer really well once and for all after only thinking and thinking about it...

Again, thank you very much! :) Adela

Unfortunately I can't tell you about the registry, I asked the same question about a month ago, everyone's registry is different so there is no way to know how it will effect your system. CCleaner does have the option to backup the registry before they delete anything that way you can restore it if something goes wrong. You may want to try that and if everything works you can always go back.
As far as Iomega, some programs for a lack of a better term wrap themselves around other programs and when you delete them they have the potential to take part of another program with them, this doesn't always happen but again every computer is different.

Oh how horrible that this should happen even not all the time! All those original techies should know better than doing such confusing things... <:-(((

Thanks to your suggestion, I will try the ccleaner since you say it will backup my registry before scanning. Then if I notice something strange, I'll go and restore the registry.

Thanks so much again! :) Adela
