Zone Alarm causing Windows 7 to freeze?

I have a new pc running Windows 7. I installed Zone Alarm, which I used successfully for years under Windows XP on another pc, and now my new pc goes into a hard freeze requiring a power off and restart. Anyone have a clue as to what might be the problem? Thanks Voxov

Did you ever figure out if ZoneAlarm was causing your problem? I have the exact same issue and no problems until I installed ZA. I am getting ready to uninstall it and try something else.

This issue was awhile ago for me but as best I can remember, there were postings to the effect that ZA had not yet perfected a 64 bit version of
their firewall. This may have changed since but I also read good reports about the improvements in Windows own firewall. I have not used ZA since but I still miss some of its user interactive features.

Hi

What exact version of ZoneAlarm do you have installed and its build/version code. (ZoneAlarm comes in various guises, Free, Pro, Internet Security etc)?

Also what other security applications do you have installed? as its possible that another application is causing high CPU usage with ZA, so check Task Manager and the Application tab for high CPU usage (note if idle is high thats normal).

But indeed, uninstall and try another one to see if that causes the same issue or not, COMODO is good as is PCTools

*personally I just use the Windows 7 built in one from behind a NAT/SPI router as well as knowing whats on my PC running, but I do agree that a Software Firewall is a good idea for many and I do suggest having one.
