Zone Alarm Free question

Ok, I have found that with Zone Alarm and XP that Zone Alarm does NOT like the fast user switching. I found information in a Zone Alarm forum of someone else having the same problem I am having. When 2 users are logged in the alerts are also sent to the 2nd user even though user 1 has already taken care of them by selecting allow or deny. So when user 2 goes back into his/her user account they have to weed thru all of those Zone Alarm alerts that user1 already took care of.

So, now my question is this is there a known fix to this problem?? If not what other FREE firewall do you guys suggest that would work? I want one without the bull crap of the alerts also going over to other logged in users for them to have to deal with even though the first user already took care of them.

I really like Zone Alarm but we have kids on our computer as other logged in users and I really don't want them messing with the allow/deny when we have already taken care of it. Just one more thing for them to possibly mess up if you ask me.

    Thanks

ps. here is the link for the Zone Alarm forum where I found why it is happening for any that are interested.. (hope the link works)

I thought Sygate was no longer supported since being bought by Symantec.

Thanks for the suggestions does anyone else have any favorites that are free versions??

I really really like my Zone Alarm Free but I just can't tolerate the alerts going over to other users. Its really annoying and sometimes it makes it so one can't even get online until the other logged in user switches and clicks allow. It is getting worse the longer it goes on. <sigh>

I am going to try and contact ZoneLabs but I doubt if that will do any good since its their Free version.

    Thanks..

Ok I tried Sygate and I don't care for it besides I am not sure if I am even protected when using the Fast User Switching as it is not shown in the system tray as to be running and when I click on the icon on the desktop it says that Fast User Switching is not supported.

So, does this mean that unless only one person is logged in that the others are not protected??

So, I need a recommendation of a good FREE firewall that is Fast User Switching supported.

I have a query in on ZoneLabs forum but I highly doubt it if I will get any results as ZoneLab doesn't seem to care about problems within the Free Version.

    Thanks,

    sw:)

Well after trying to find a solution to my ZAF problem I have given up as even the problem is in their Pro version as well.

I found a recommendation from another user on the MG forum for Comodo firewall and I did d/l that and try it out and it works. Its very easy to use and best of all it works with XP Fast User Switching. So, Comodo rocks in my eyes..

 Thanks MG for putting this site together so people can learn & share & help each other out.

If you want to try the firewall out just click on the name within my post to take you to the MG link as I linked it to the name within my post. Comodo Firewall is FREE you do have to enter an activation code (which you will be sent via email) but thats just so you have the Firewall for life. Enjoy!!

I am using Comodo too... and so far am happy with it. Use to use ZoneAlarm free and was fine with that too. Went to Comodo based on the PCMag recommendation that it was the best free firewall available now.

Hmm, maybe I'll try Comodo again, I found it tough to configure the last time I tried it a few months ago. Thanks for that.

I let it configure on it's own. I can't remember the options but when installing you have 2 options and I just left the first checked as the 2nd one was for more advanced users.

To me by leaving that first option checked it was very very easy and very user friendly. I am glad I found it and I really like it and it to me is as easy to use as Zone Alarm Free and best of all I don't have the issue with duplicate alerts with the Fast User Switching option in XP.

    take care..

I must admit that I too have become somewhat jaded with ZA, had downloaded Comodo awhile back and just needed this thread to goad me into trashing ZA and using Comodo. I must admit I ain't heading back to ZA, unless I find some leaks in the WALL. Sweet Program
