I have started receiving pop-ups from Zone Alarm asking to install an update? or upgrade? to protect against Sality virus. A nag screen appears every time I boot up asking me if I want to install it now or be notified as far out as 60 days. Selecting 60 days out does no good as it again appears on the next boot up.

Is this a pitch to upgrade or is it a viable update? I'm running Windows XP, Avast Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm 8.0.298.

What is this program and how do I get rid of the nag screen if it's a guise to get me to upgrade?

I have done a thorough virus search and I'm clean. I've searched for zlclient.exe and when I go to the task manager and try to stop the process, I receive a message that I do not have access to the file.

I went into Zone Alarm and attempted to delete it and received the same message.

    Any help would be appreciated.

sopchoppy, time to update your FW!!
I'm assuming you're on ZA free without the AV since you already have Avast.
Not sure why you're getting the Sality virus pop-up!! Thought this may be a rogue!
Google did bring up another poster having issues ditto yours. A ZA update fixed it.

Here's an history of the updates.

I'm quoting a mod over on ZA forums on how to do a clean install.

You can get the latest ZA installer from
