i have a question about my Zone Alarm and why it might have done what it did.

i just came online about 20 minutes ago. i have dial up access. the first thing i did was start Firefox browser. when it opened up it asked for permission to access the internet. ive had that before, but not for awhile because i had the setting set to remember. i opened up Zone Alarm and the first thing i noticed is the "Outbound Protection" only has 5 programs listed. just earlier today when i was online i know i was somewhere in the 80's for programs, but now the list was gone and started over? i never updated anything or did anything new to it myself. it still does show..
30371 intrusions have been blocked since install.
3107 of those have been high-rated.
The firewall has blocked 78084 access attempts.

so why was my program list gone?
the only programs currently there are..
    -Apache HTTP Server
    -Application Layer Gateway Service
    -Firefox
-Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
    -ZoneAlarm client

all the other settings are the same as i had before..
    Internet Zone Security - High
    Trusted Zone Security - Medium
    Program Control - Medium

the only other thing i have now noticed different is, Alert Events Show is set to On, but i set that back to Off.

in the area Alerts & Logs, Log Viewer, Program ..the one alert for Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe is set to Allowed/Auto and at the end of the line it says Loopback.
    is that normal?

i imagine any program that was there before will just have to be asked again for permission for the first time again, so i should not worry about this?

    EDIT-
the only thing i could think of as to why it did this. i was online early this morning. then the computer was shut down. i turned on the computer around mid morning and as it was loading after about 10-20 seconds from turning it on the power went out here. maybe when Zone Alarm was loading and the power went off that could have did something? just something that came to mind, im confused.

i had another program access thing come up. it happened when i was logging into my Gmail account. i dont know if that is connected or not. it was HprbUpdate.exe
the program under Alerts & Logs says..
    Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Product Assistant\bin\HprbUpdate.exe
..and at the end it says for Destination DNS, googlemail.l
im guessing thats because my computer is HP? and i should not be concerned with that?

Hi, I can understand your concern, but we have no way of knowing if your file structure is still in order. The user is the only one that can decide if a PC has a problem. After time you have a feel for normal traffic, program usage and the way your PC responds, if out of the norm you need to take a closer look.

From what your describing it could be the power outage corrupted your Zone program list file and settings.

Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Product Assistant\bin\HprbUpdate.exe is a HP program and looks for updates, normal.

You had Google Mail open, so again normal for is to show as connected; or you clicked a link in mail perhaps that went to HP for updates but unless we had a screenshot we can't really know what you were looking at.

    Firefox uses a loopback connection...

If you did not reboot, do so. Look at your firewall and see if functioning properly. I don't use Zone anymore but if responding normally, blocking, alerts are working I would guess its was file corruption.

I've had a few power outages, best thing to do is if PC does not reboot properly or as expected is to completely shutdown (give it a break) and reboot before changing anything, always works for me. Most likely since you changed settings in Zone you will not recover the original settings unless you have a complete current backup.

    g'day SpecialFNK

i once had this happen to me when i was using Zone Alarm,it occurred after the program downloaded a priority update and required a reboot of the computer for the update to take affect.all my program settings were gone and i had to go through them all over again but everything else remained the same.
could it be possible that being with dial up that an update came through in dribs and drabs with out you knowing and once you restarted the computer it took affect. i to no longer use Zone Alarm so i could not tell you if an update has been issued.
