Sorry posted this in the wrong place
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1306013#post1306013

    hope this is ok

Hi, I have 2 pc's, this one and an older "Mesh" pc which has been upgraded to Win Xp Proffessional version 2002 service pack 3 (this done several months ago without problem) I run A.V.G. 7.5 anti virus software on it.
After my husband used the pc for the internet (via our wireless connection) we seem to have had problems.
Basically the pc starts, the AVG software downloads the updates but I cannot connect to the internet, help and support wont work, outlook express and other programs when they are tried to open the message box on screen says

"Program has encountered a problem and needs to be closed,Please tell microsoft about this problem and you can send a report,"when I click on dont send the program just shuts down

On reading in the forum I thought it may be a mailware problem and printed the list I found through controll panel remove programs that "Delfin Media Viewer" is installed but will not be uninstalled as it says the file does not exist or does not have a valid uninstallation log.

Is this causing my problem or is it something more major, help would be very much appreciated

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid addtional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advise that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Hi I am hoping that I have carried out all the instructions as required, forgive me if not. At the end of Super Anti spy I had this error message
"Runtime error" Program C:\\program files\ super anti spyware\super anti spyware.exe R6025-pure virtual function call.
I clicked on the repairs tab and repaired brocken network connection (hope this correct)

As I said at the begining of my thread I did not know what was causing my error messages, but after completing the "Run and Read Me" instructions the pc is in the same state.I do have the Windows CD if this is needed.
    Many thanks

You did not allow MGTools to run to completion....you need to make the agreement to the HJT run and then wait until you are prompted to press a key to continue. Please try this again by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

However, I am not certain yet that this is a malware issue.

    Hi
I am not sure what you mean by "make an agreement with HJT" is this something I need to turn off.
    Sorry heads in bits,

Hi, I have re-read your mail and think I may have not let the scan complete.
(I am leaving the prompt box running allthough it does say click any key to close)
At the begining of the scan I had message

"An extended memory manager is already installed XMS Driver not installed."

I dont know if this is of relevance.
I shall leave the box open for an hour or so in case I am shutting down the scan before its finished.
Will get back to you asap. and thanks for your time.

it went through the same as previous then stopped with the promt window saying hit key to continue (this after I left it 2hr) I tried to upload the file but it said there was not data.

    Hi
After many attemps I hopefully may have got what is needed, everytime I re-run the program it seems to do exactly the same maybe this time there is additional info.
I hope so, I did think of running the XP disk on repair but will wait untill you have looked at the logs and give your opinion
    Many thanks

You did fine and you logs are clean. You do need to download and install:
    Java Runtime 6.

Any other issues you are having would best be resolved in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Many thanks for your time and input, I will finish the steps as you suggest and then put forward a new thread in the software section and see if I can get to the bottom of the problem.
    Thanks again ;)
