:cryI have not been able to shut down or restart my Windows XP since downloading and running this piece of shiq:

    http://files.filefront.com/Hosterzip/;11654641;/fileinfo.html

I have been able to get absolutely zero help from filefront.com and they don't seem to check on this kind of anonymous garbage uploading to their site. I have no idea what this has done to my registry and there seems to be no record of it anywhere to uninstall, etc.

Any help in understanding what this file may have done and/or getting rid of its effect would be much appreciated. At first I could see it running under applications, but it no longer shows - still I can't shut down or restart which has really screwed me up. Thanks in advance.

Why did you download it to begin with? Did you read the ReadMe in this ZIP file. It is doing exactly what it said it would do:
    Code:
    [SIZE=2]
    Slayscape industries~
    presents~
    Bonza's Hoster
hello, this is my second release of this program
i fixed some bugs and stuff and it works realy good now
    =]
    also,
    click properties/run/install
and you can turn your computer off and it will still run!
creditz to Barryman224 for helpin me with that
    thankz~

If you wish to check your PC for malware, please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I had some problem with my hosts files interfering with Webroot Spysweeper. I read in another site that a program called hoster.exe would fix it. It was kind of reckless on my part, but I tried your program just to see what it would do. Afterwards I ended up having to reinstall Windows XP and do some registry restores to be able to shut down and restart and get things back the way they were. Evidendtly, this may have been just a coincidence. In the meantime, I would have saved myself some grief if I had been able to find an email address or website address accompanyiing your file posting on filefront. I'm still not sure what the full purpose of your file was; i.e. why you would not want your computer to shut down.

The program that you want to use for resetting your hosts file is: HostsXpert

We did not send you to filefront. Not sure what you are referring to. We have are own download site at www.majorgeeks.com and would not send you elsewhere.

What file are you referring to?
