I am trying to help a friend with their computer. When they try to click on certain websites they get redirected to a different site. When you try to go to any spyware or antivirus removal website you get redirected. The system is an older computer but is Windows XP. So the real problem is that you can't download any malware or spyware programs to correct the problem and most programs are too big for a CD. Could you download a program on a thumb drive from a different computer and load it onto the infected one. What would the best programs to use and in what order should they be used

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    4. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you

I started with the instructions but when I tried to install Super Antispyware from a cd the computer does not respond. I tried the cd on a different computer and it will load so I know there is nothing wrong with the cd.
Should I try to start the computer in safe mode and run the cd then or what do you suggest

I updated my initial instructions, try the step listed in red and then try again to download, install and run the tools.

I really appreciate all of the advice. After disabling the TDSServ.sys I was able to load and run all of the programs and the computer seems to run fine now

Good! I would still recommend attaching all requested logs once completing all of the scans in the READ ME. Remember, just because you are not having any obvious problems doesn't mean your system is clean.

There are still a few remaining items we need to address. First, I would like you to uninstall the current versions of SAS and MBAM. Once uninstalled, reboot and then download the newest versions below. Once downloaded, update and install just like you did before. Finally, run scans with each program and then attach the new logs.

Also, please attach the log from MGTools.exe from the READ ME.
